In light of COVID-19: An update from our founder

Our Backcountry Wok team is sending you all the love and positivity during these challenging times

As we follow the development of COVID-19, our priority is keeping our team members + customers safe. To us, this means taking preventative measures to reduce the spread of the virus and also checking in on our mental and physical well-being during these challenging times.

Here is what our Backcountry Wok team is doing:

  • We are increasing the frequency of regular cleanings + have installed extra sanitizing stations in our facility.
  • We have reduced production shifts and continue to sell from our reserved stocks.
  • We have cancelled all demos, markets and events. As always, you can shop us online and at your local retail stores.
  • We recognize that there are families who cannot afford to stock up especially as stores are being depleted of non-perishable products + we are donating to our local food bank.

We want to help our community!

For every Backcountry Wok meal sold, we will be matching your purchase + donating a meal to our local food bank.

As you may know, our Backcountry Wok and Wok Fresh meals are dietitian-approved, have a tested shelf life of 1 year and require no refrigeration. This makes them the perfect meal not just for the trails but during these challenging times.

In recent weeks, we have found many customers stocking up on our nutritious meals as quick at-home lunches or dinners, or as emergency food rations. You can check out our selection here.

For many of us, the recent COVID-19 events along with the self isolation and self quarantine have drastically changed our daily routines. During such stressful times, it is important for us to continue to take care of ourselves, eat nutritiously and check in with our loved ones.

Here are some things you can do for yourself:

  • Get outside! Go for a walk or run: With all the social distancing, this is a great time to get some fresh air in wide, open spaces.
  • Eat nutritiously + drink lots of H20: During such stressful and uncertain times, it's important to take care of yourself.
  • Schedule a phone or video call check-in: Here's your chance to connect with that friend you've been meaning to call.
  • Start on your to-do list. Maybe you've wanted to learn a new language, start a podcast or learn to knit? This is your time.

During these uncertain and challenging times, we are also reminded of other people and families who are in vulnerable, less fortunate situations or at higher risk.

Here are some things we can do for our community:

  • Be responsible. Practice social distancing, good hygiene practices and stay up to date on the latest here.
  • Consider making a donation to your local food shelter. Food bank heavily rely on monetary donations to make purchases
  • Know of someone who's at higher risk that could use a hand picking up groceries? Offer to help a neighbour or a friend in need
  • Shop local. Your mom and pop shop can't keep their doors open without cash flow. Plus there are less line-ups (and more social distancing!) than big box grocery stores. If you can afford it, invest in a gift card at a local yoga studio or cafe to help them stay in business.

Stay safe and take care,

Melanie & your Backcountry Wok team
