Women who love the outdoors will love these companies
In honour of International Women’s Day, we wanted to shine the spotlight on outdoor companies that focus on the empowerment of women. From Patagonia’s President Rose Marcario to Burton Snowboards’ CEO Donna Carpenter, women continue to play a central role in the world of outdoor products and services through their leadership and ingenuity. We’re excited to share with you this list of five amazing outdoor companies that put women at the forefront of everything they do.
1. Renew Retreats
Renew Retreats’ Founder Danielle Leroux became interested in hiking when she moved to the West Coast, but she wasn’t sure where to start. Outdoor activities can appear daunting and confusing. That’s where Renew Retreats comes in. This Vancouver-based company was created to empower women to get into the outdoors, regardless of experience level. They currently hold monthly retreats and educational workshops so you can get a great workout in and also meet other local hikers and like-minded women. Whether you’re an experienced hiker looking to socialize or a new hiker trying to get on the trails, we love Renew Retreats and we cannot wait to see all the exciting retreats and workshops coming up in 2020.
2. Mia Melon
Vancouver-based Mia Melon began as a streetwear brand, but later made a transition to a modern, fashion outerwear brand. Although they are committed to providing elegant and aesthetic designs, their jackets are windproof and waterproof. This blend of fashionable and functional makes it an ideal fit for anyone looking to be prepared for their backcountry adventures without sacrificing style. You’ll find their stuff online and in stores across Canada. If you’re in Vancouver, be sure to visit their Flagship store in Gastown.
3. Sidesaddle Bikes
As Vancouver’s original women-focused bike shop, it is no surprise that Sidesaddle made our spotlight on women-focused outdoor companies. Not only do Sidesaddle strive to embrace the unprecedented freedom and empowerment that bicycles brought to women in everything they do, but they also celebrate the Suffragettes and the movement for women’s right to vote with their signature store colors of purple, white and green. But their advocacy doesn’t stop there, they are also supporters of a higher minimum wage and of local initiatives that seek to improve their community. Shopping for a bike, looking for a repair, or want to get involved in a cycling event? Check them out!
When it comes to women’s active wear and shoes, Ladysport has got you covered. They boast a comprehensive and diverse selection of athletic gear, while also distinguishing themselves in the highest level of customer service. We love that they provide walking and running clinics that encourage women of all levels to be more active and confident. Whatever outdoor apparel you’re seeking, we’re confident that you will enjoy Ladysport’s collection.
5. Rocky Mountain Soap Company
Rocky Mountain Soap is a unique Canadian company that firmly believes in providing products of the highest quality with the utmost transparency. Their CEO, Karina Birch, bought the company with her husband in 2000 and has maintained an admirable commitment to handmade products with 100% natural ingredients.
