Our meals have a tested shelf life of 2 years.
Generally, dehydrated meals do keep for much longer than that (between 3-5 years) but we can concretely say 2 years.
When out on the trail, we recommend consuming the rehydrated meal in one sitting. For those who are light eaters or looking for a snack, we suggest you rehydrate the meal portions at a time (you can reuse the bag) to maximize freshness!
We heat seal each bag to keep its freshness. We recommend you store your Backcountry Wok meals at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and away from moisture until you're ready to take it on the trails.
Some of our meals contain soy. Please refer to the product page and allergen labelling on the back for specifics.
While we do not have the official gluten-free certification (we are working on it!), our meals do not contain gluten nor prepared in a facility with gluten.
Definitely, our meals can be rehydrated at high altitudes and at low temperatures!
Water boils at a lower temperature at high altitudes so it may take a little longer to rehydrate. For every 1,000 ft elevation above sea level, give it an extra minute.
Since water also evaporates faster at higher altitudes, you may need to add more water than the instructions indicate. Start with a tablespoon or two, and add more as necessary.
